ORIGIN
OORSPRONG
The Dipladenia originates from Central and South America and grows there at high altitudes. In Northern Europe the Dipladenia is still a rather unknown product. In Southern Europe on the other hand it is a very sought after product. The Dipladenia belongs to the Apocynaceae family to which, among other things, also belong the Allamanda, Catharanthus and Nerium Oleander.
The Dipladenia with the splendidly gleaming green leaves is originally a climbing plant, which grows on other trees and shrubs. Between the twining branches of the climbing plant appear flowers varying from white, soft pink, pink, deep pink up to red. Some varieties smell wonderful and spread their sweet aroma across your patio. This beauty blooms on tirelessly up to late Fall.
CARE
The care of the Dipladenia is simple. From April up to November the plant can be outside day and night. The plant keeps giving new flowers, which each remain fresh for up to fourteen days. Upon sunny weather, water it each day. Pay attention not to water too much and that rainwater can drain easily from the pot. Regularly feed for an extra long flowering season. It is also possible at the start of the season to stick a few coated manure granules into the earth around the plant. Moreover, because in the country of origin the plant grows at a high altitude, it does not have to stand the whole day in the sun. Thus select a light spot in half shade.
Relocate the Dipladenia preferably inside before the frost. During the winter the plant conforms to a temperature of between 10 and 16 degrees. Ideal is a spot in front of the window in a cool, light location. During the winter give the climbing plant just a little bit of water; however make sure that the earth does not dry out. Then it can go outside again in April/May!
